Iskandar Puteri (IP) is the largest urban integrated development in South East Asia, comprising 24,000 acres of signature catalytic developments aligned with identified sectors and industries in the 10th Malaysia Plan. Formerly known as Nusajaya, it was launched in 2007 as one of five flagship zones of Iskandar Malaysia — the country’s foremost emerging economic zone.
IP’s location, connectivity, and proximity to Singapore are impetuses for its surging economic growth. Strategically located at the crossroads of the East-West trade lanes, IP’s two international airports and five seaports keep the city within minutes from Singapore and a few hours by air from Asia’s economic powerhouses.
IP was planned with sustainability as a priority and is envisioned to become Malaysia’s most connected and livable city by 2025. It offers a harmonious living experience by integrating select commercial, industrial, recreational and residential developments, making for an exceptional place to work, live and play. IP is focused on nurturing communities by addressing social needs including security, transportation, education and culture through an integrated master plan.
IP is rapidly becoming the region’s culture and entertainment hub due to its affinity for eclectic happenings and public art projects. At least 34 public art installations and 138 cultural events took place within IP in conjunction with Iskandar Malaysia’s 10th anniversary last year, attracting droves of visitors and talents from the ASEAN region.
Though IP accounts for a mere 4% of Iskandar Malaysia’s total area, it is one of the nation’s most-recognised developments. IP scored global attention in 2012 by obtaining the Best Masterplan Award at the FIABCI Prix d’Excellence Awards. On top of setting the benchmark for city safety and security planning, IP is also home to Kota Iskandar, Johor’s administrative centre.
IP is spearheaded by UEM Sunrise and Iskandar Investment, two local development entities working closely with the Iskandar Regional Development Authority to coordinate local authorities, developers and global investment partners in realising Malaysia’s most ambitious integrated development project to date.
