Technology has been evolving quicker than ever before. We have adapted the way we live in recent years. From ordering food, moving from one place to another, learning a new skill, to shopping, technology has made a great impact in our lives that sometimes without us realizing.
It is almost the end of 2020, what is the latest trend of technology we can look forward to next year?
Internet of Things
We always hear about the Internet of Things, or IoT, what exactly it is and how does it improve our quality of life? IoT is the circumstance when physical objects embedded with software, sensors and technologies connect and exchange data with electronic devices and systems via the internet. In our daily life, IoT has allowed us to control home appliances, devices and vehicles remotely and hence enhance efficiency, safety as well as convenience. The best example of the product available in the market is turning on the home air-conditioner while we are at work so we can enjoy cold air upon arriving at the house and managing CCTV devices with lesser cost and complexity.
At the end of 2017, the world-class Iskandar Puteri Data Centre, TM One was launched. The centre is designed to fulfil the hosting, cloud and IoT requirements of business and government agencies in materializing digital transformation plans. The data centre is primed to meet the industry’s top standards, which are ensuring high availability, energy savings and the most advanced security and connectivity specifications to satisfy enterprises in need of ultimate reliability.
5G is the fifth generation in telecommunication after the current 4G which is expected to revolutionize our lives. It is created to deliver higher multi-Gbps peak data speeds, lower latency, higher reliability and availability, massive network capacity, and a more stable user experience. It enables services that rely on Virtual Reality (VR) alongside cloud-based gaming services. 5G devices available in the market are from Samsung, LG, Apple, Huawei, Oppo and more are under the building of this new technology to stay competitive in the market.
Based in Iskandar Puteri, Vrinity is the VR leader providing VR sports and attractions for the public to experience. With 5G services, we will be more accessible to more and better VR as well as other facilities like Vrinity.
Drones and Robotics
We all have seen or heard of drones and robotics, but what can these two technologies do when these forces are joined? During the pandemic, use of the technology has accelerated. The US is using drones and robotics to monitor social distancing, while China and other European countries are using them to spray disinfectant to reduce the chances of contact.
Iskandar Investment Berhad has launched a new initiative called Iskandar NEXT (Iskandar New Economic Experience and Talent) in October 2020. It is a public-private-partnership program with the aim to uplift three main aspects – digital innovation, emerging economies and talent development in Iskandar Puteri. Together with other subsidiaries under IIB Group and other business partners, Iskandar NEXT fixes attention on five significant areas which include drones and robotics, food security, talent development, advanced technology, and education. For drones and robotics, actions are taken by four giants – IIB Ventures Sdn Bhd (IIBV), Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation, DHL will focus and Futurise. DRZ Iskandar was launched in December 2020 to support Iskandar NEXT program with the purpose to create a healthy drone and robotics eco-system in Iskandar Puteri. With these initiatives, we Malaysian will be able to experience more up-to-date technology in our everyday lives and help make Malaysia a developed country in the near future.
