Iskandar NEXT to Boost Digital Innovation, Emerging Economies and Talent Development in Iskandar Puteri

Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) launched ISKANDAR NEXT (Iskandar New Economic Experience and Talent) program to boost digital innovation emerging economics and talent development in Iskandar Puteri. Launched by the Menteri Besar Johor, YAB Datuk Haji Hasni bin Mohammad ISKANDAR NEXT is designed as a public-private partnership (PPP) program that supports Johor state government’s agenda in creating job opportunities for Johoreans and reinstating investor’s confidence amidst the slow economics caused by the pandemic.

 

ISKANDAR NEXT is a testament to IIB’s commitment towards making Iskandar Puteri the preferred destination for IR4.0 related industries. In these collaborations initiated by IIB, components of ISKANDAR NEXT will be executed by various companies under IIB Group within five areas of focus, which are drone and robotics, food security, talent development, advanced technology, and education. Witnessed by YAB Datuk Haji Hasni bin Mohammad, the companies exchanged Collaborative Agreements that outline their respective participation in this program.

IIB Ventures Sdn Bhd (IIBV), Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation and DHL’s collabration will focus on drone and robotic, alongside IIBV and Futurise. Meanwhile, IIBV and Beyond4, together with EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd and LEA Academy & English Centre (LEA) will work to enhance talent development. Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN) will move their Southern Office to Medini 9, in collaboration with Medini Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MIMSB). Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ), in collaboration with MIMSB as well, has become the latest addition to Medini Central Business District to accommodate their subsidiaries, namely Digital Johor, Sports Johor and SUKMA 2021 secretariat. ISKANDAR NEXT will also see a collaboration between Iskandar Innovation Sdn Bhd (IISB) and Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science and Technology Centre (CREST) in fostering innovation to tackle urban challenges. Iskandar Capital Sdn Bhd (IskCap) and Cultiveat will work together to explore farming innovations at IskCap’s Agro Park.

 

YAB Datuk Haji Hasni bin Mohammad stated, “Today marks another key milestone for IIB in attracting investments into Iskandar Puteri. IIB has been a major player in contributing to the development of Iskandar Malaysia since 2006, and I am please to witness the persistency through ISKANDAR NEXT program, particularly in digital technology and talent upskilling and reskilling to support the Johor state government agenda.”

President cum Chief Executive Officer of IIB, Datuk Ir. Khairil Anwar Ahmad said, “Since 2018, IIB has evolved from being catalytic developer to strategic investment holding company in Iskandar Puteri. As an innovative leader, IIB took the challenge to create a complete ecosystem beyond the catalytic projects and property development with a vision to create a sustainable and inclusive metropolis ready to be on par with the economic giants around the globe.”

IIB has been a major player in contributing to the development of Iskandar Malaysia since 2006. With proven track record and investment showed by IIB, its subsidiaries and associate companies in Iskandar Puteri, the city now has the capacity to host various digital industry hubs and develop skilled talents, with supports from stakeholders and state government to ensure Johor’s economy remains competitive.

Collectively, IIB has created close to 10,000 jobs across five promoted sectors and created an estimated RM400 millions of total revenue for the government.
