EduCity Celebrates Chinese New Year

A reunion dinner with international and local university partners

Iskandar Puteri, 1st March 2019 - EduCity ushered in the Lunar Chinese New Year with a reunion dinner and hosted senior management and students from Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia, University of Southampton Malaysia, University of Reading Malaysia, Kolej MDIS Malaysia, Raffles University Iskandar, Netherlands Maritime Institute of Malaysia and Multimedia University. The event was held on 11th February 2019 at EduCity Sports Complex where our guests came dressed in Red and Gold ensemble, as per the theme for the night.

A lion dance show was the opening act and the guests were also entertained with a mask-changing performance, a fan dance and CNY themed games such as Stack the Orange and Chopsticks Challenge.

The highlight of the evening was the soulful performance by Ethel Christina Adams, 22-year-old students from University of Reading Malaysia. Currently pursuing a degree in Business Management, she serenades the crowd with her unique rendition of ‘Jealous’ that was originally sung by Labrinth. There was thunderous applause when Sze Yi, a 23-year-old student from Kolej MDIS Malaysia who is currently pursuing a degree in Banking and Finance chose to perform a fusion of CNY festive songs with the highly popular ‘Despacito’ tunes with an erhu, a two-stringed bowed musical instrument to complete the magical night.

“I am thankful for the support of our university partners, both the senior management team who made time to attend this and of course to our EduCity students. With all the hustle and bustle of work and studying, this event was a platform for all of us to take a breather and catch up on a more personal environment so we can continuously grow as a community.

We also strive to continue the momentum of building the community by having more engagement with our students or EduCitizens, as we fondly called them in terms of making impactful decisions that will later reflect how EduCity is as a hub. This is evident as we are currently building our Student Centre, a two-and-half-story building to be completed this year where the key objective is to offer a centralised location to host our EduCitizens,” said Wan Ahmad Saifuddin Wan Ahmad Radzi, Managing Director of EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

Another event that will be the highlight for the month of March is Iskandar Investment Bhd inaugural ‘Iskandar Investment Esports Carnival’. Running from 30th to 31st March 2019, the two-day event is envisioned to be one of Malaysia’s biggest Esports events and will be held in EduCity Sports Complex. More details here
