Before saying goodbye to 2020, my friend Nurul and I were thinking to have a short vacation somewhere not too far from Johor Bahru town to have a break to re-charge.
We wanted to explore Iskandar Puteri and so we started to do some googling. There are numerous hotels and resorts, serviced apartments and other Airbnb choices, which majority of the lodging providers offering affordable prices from RM 80 per night. After doing some homework, we decided to go with Fraser Place Puteri Harbour. It is a serviced residence located near to the attractions we planned to discover. Marina Walk is only a few minutes of walking distance, Sunway Big Box Retail Park is about 10 minutes drive away and other time we planned to enjoy the facilities.
Upon arriving the service residence, we parked in the basement parking which is free-of-charge at that time. The check-in counter is at Level 2. The process was express as we have made payment in advance and the things left were to collect room key and a signature. We entered our room – Studio Premier and loved it right away. The room was at Level 16 where we could see a perfect city-harbour view combined. After we unpacked, we walked to a mart called The Pasar to get some snacks and drinks. It is rather a big mart selling essential items.
During the late afternoon, we drove to Marina Walk Puteri Harbour with ample of parking spaces. There are plenty of restaurants as well as food stalls and food trucks there. When we walk towards the end of Marina Walk, there was a little man-made beach for recreational activities and a musical fountain. We were amazed by the fountain with its water show, it is worth exploring!
We then headed for a Thai restaurant called Chatri for dinner. It is about 10 minutes drive away from Marina Walk. The interior of the restaurant is full of Thai decoration items and they have a tiny fish tank on all tables – so unique! Nurul and I ordered Tom Yum, Minced Chicken with Basil Leaves, tea and a Thai dessert named Khanom Sai Sai. The food was served in about 10 minutes, we liked them very much. Malaysian are familiar with the main courses we ordered because of Thai influence to the country. Khanom Sai Sai is not the usual Thai dessert and we thought of trying it. It is made of coconut milk base with brown sugar coconut filling. A great ending for the meal.
It is the best time to take a stroll after a big meal. We drove back to Fraser Place and walked around Teega Walk where there are a few restaurants and night view to take photos. We went back to our room and just chilling at the balcony overlooking such a stunning night view. We took a turn to shower and soaked in the bathtub, it was very relaxing. We then turned on the TV to Fox Movies for a movie marathon laying on their comfortable bed with soft pillows.
The next morning, we slept in and woke up about 9:30 am. We were still in time for the buffet breakfast in the coffee house. The buffet spread is satisfying with a mixture of western and local items. For beverages, they had juices, coffee and tea. We then went back to our room and did the laundry with the two-in-one washing machine and dryer device. While waiting, we went to use the swimming pool and gymnasium at Level 18. The facilities only open Tuesday to Sunday, from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm when we were there.
We checked out at about 12.15 noon and took a slow drive home. Both my friend and I needed a short break like this and Iskandar Puteri has all we ever needed.
